The Assad officials included former chief of Syrian military intelligence Kamal al-Hassan and Abu Ali Khadr, a wealthy businessman with close to Assad.

They requested Israel support an Alawite separatist project, and 'protect' the Alawite population on the coast of Syria. They claim Russia's declining influence in the region, and have therefore turned to Tel Aviv," - Israel Hayom.
