Even Catholic Clement's 1 Clement 7:7 promotes repent of sins to be saved by implying that the people of Nineveh repented of sins right before obtaining God's pardon & receive salvation.

Clement said:

"Jonah preached destruction unto the men of Nineveh; but they, repenting of their sins, obtained pardon of God by their supplications and received salvation, albeit they were aliens from God"

[ 1 Clement 7:7 ]

But Clement did not mention that the people of Nineveh first believed God and then turned from their evil ways afterward, and that when the people of Nineveh believed God, they were saved:

So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them. And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way;

I believed, therefore have I spoken: I was greatly afflicted: ... I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the LORD
