A Bitcoin investor reportedly suffered a loss of approximately $400,000 after their Google account was compromised.
The victim had transferred Bitcoin from a Coldcard hardware wallet to a centralized exchange. Attackers allegedly gained access to the exchange account through the compromised Google account and synced two-factor authentication data.
The case demonstrates the importance of securing not only self-custody wallets, but also the accounts and authentication methods used when interacting with centralized exchanges.
