James Carville and Al Hunt take on the state of American politics:
AL HUNT, CO-HOST: He's doing a lot of stupid things, there's no question. But he's also done some things that are at least semi-nefarious. He said there's going to be a $15 billion steel mill built in Iowa, which of course is essential to the campaign this year, except it's not going to happen until 2030.
He said earlier, if you elect Republicans, I'll give you $5,000, don't spend it yet. Now he's saying, I'm going to send out a refund check to a million ACA recipients. He's helping John Huston in Ohio, who's pushing a hastily assembled protect ratepayers from data centers that he has advocated for those centers for years.
And in Iowa, Ashley Henson, the GOP Senate candidate is saying the cost of living in the Rand War is just unacceptable, except she's supported and voted that war for years. So I think these Republicans and Trump better realize, I think he's trying to do stuff and I think he'll try to cheat. It's too late.
It's too late. It's over.
JAMES CARVILLE, CO-HOST: But what I would urge people to do is think of how you feel right now today, I guess it's 30 September and then let's check back in with you six weeks from now and that's going to be the Wednesday day after the election and whatever you're feeling today, it's going to be entirely different then and once the country demonstrates its rejection of Trump and Trumpism and everything to do with it, which I'm highly confident that they're going to do, then everything is going to change.
Up to investigations, anything else, and I got to say it every time I look at the Supreme Court, I'm sorry, they're going to have to do something in 2029. This can't stand. They're not even trying to like follow the law. They just willy nilly whatever Trump wants, they'd rubber stamp it. And I'd say, I don't hate to say it's just a fact, we're going to have to go to 13. It just can't continue. We can't have a totally partisan entire judiciary that we have right now.
HUNT: Well, I'll tell you one thing that I think Democrats should steer clear of, and that's impeachment. It's not, it's not that Trump has not committed impeachable offenses, far worse than what he was accused of back in 2019 with Ukraine. I mean, he has, I mean, you could come up with a bill of particulars of, you know, a dozen at least.
But you know something, James, it's not going to happen and it is a distraction. It is a waste of energy. Investigate, investigate, investigate. Don't go on a mission that isn't going to succeed.
CARVILLE: So you investigate, and of course what you're going to find, and you're going to find it quickly, is overwhelming evidence of criminal activity. Now, of course, he can't commit a crime, according to our Supreme Court, because, well, he's above the law. And I tell you, but suppose you say this is unconstitutional proof, we've got to do something about this.
How can he stay in office? And impeachment would be a very difficult thing. It's time consuming. It's highly unlikely to be anything because you need so many votes in the Senate. But we're going to find out a whole bunch of stuff really fast at the beginning of the year 2027, I promise you.
