Attorney General Todd Blanche and Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin hold a press conference at the Department of Justice.
KELLY O'DONNELL, NBC NEWS: You really never have your own time. Wherever you go, wherever you go, you are the Attorney General, and people will see you as the Attorney General. You don't really have free time in the mind of the public.
ATTORNEY GENERAL TODD BLANCHE: Well, sure.
O'DONNELL: No, no, no. I'm trying to characterize this so that people understand. When they see you...
BLANCHE: I don't agree with that. That's not what the law says either. The law says that the Attorney General, the Secretary of War, the Treasury Secretary, we're allowed to do things in our individual capacity.
So I appreciate the media message that everywhere you go, you're the Attorney General. But unfortunately, that's not what the statute says. So I am allowed to go and support administrative priorities in my personal capacity.
And again, I can't speak to what other Attorney Generals have done or not done. I'm not judged by what they have done and what I've done. There's been Attorney Generals who were blatantly partisan and never spoke at a single rally.
Is that right? Of course not. Of course not.
So you can't... I mean, it's easy to compare. But I will tell you that everything I do is not only lawful, but approved by ethics.
And I'm not going to stop talking about the great work that we're doing at the Department or that this administration is doing to change the lives of Americans.
