MSNBC's Chris Hayes and Alex Wagner mock Republicans, talking about how President Trump is dragging down their midterm chances:

CHRIS HAYES: He's at it again. The strategy-part of the strategy here too, Alex-and this was, I think, embodied in both the midterm convention and the Trump ads, which, again, are just like, Here's Donald Trump. Remember how much you love me, which I'm not sure is going to work.

Tom Bevan, RealClearPolitics, who's very sort of Republican-sympathetic and, I think, a conservative, Trump-aligned, put this up today with the Democratic convention bounce, where he's basically looking at this chart and saying, look, Democrats have gone up 2.5 points in the generic ballot since the midterm convention.

Which, again, like, I kind of believe, because it is the case that almost everyone is outperforming Trump at this point, right? Like, every single poll you get-if everyone just views their Republican candidate as a proxy for Trump, that's the worst possible outcome for the Republicans.

ALEX WAGNER: Someone needs to tell him that putting him on the airwaves is a Democratic strategy, not a Republican one. He is below the Bush line.

There's, like, an unnamed Republican strategist in The Wall Street Journal today who says voters associate Donald Trump with higher gas prices, higher food prices, higher mortgage rates, and the proliferation of data centers across the United States of America.

Chris, he is going to the states of Oklahoma and Alabama this week. That's how they're using their presidential resources. He won those states by 30 points in 2024, and there is broad skepticism about him and his party in those states today.

That is all the sign you need to know about just how utterly toxic this man has become. And, like, if I'm a Democratic strategist, I love the NFL ads. I love these ads. I mean, especially the part that says, Funded by the U.S. taxpayers. It is so galling.

It is an ad for the generic ballot with a Democrat on it. Keep it going, Trump.

CHRIS HAYES: It's a great point. That is a great point. I don't know if anyone watches this program and takes my advice. I personally think he should be living in Maine, basically, for the next week or two. Just a constant-I mean, he needs to get out there and campaign for Susan Collins in Maine as much as possible.
