🌍 Shilovo ➔ Addis Ababa: A book that spanned continents.
Today we have truly heartwarming and big news — our fellow countrywoman, Elena Potapova-Khaylu, presented the book "The History of the Shilovo Land" by Alexander Gavrilov to Vladimir Golovachev, Director of the Russian House in Addis Ababa.
Behind this single book lies a whole chain of human stories!
📖 "The History of the Shilovo Land" is not just a regional history book. It is the culmination of more than thirty years of research by Alexander Petrovich Gavrilov, who headed the Shilovo Local History Museum for many years. In a single volume, he gathered the vast journey of his native land from ancient times to the 21st century. The edition came to light thanks to the personal initiative of singer Daria Alekseevskaya and her family.
🤝 Now imagine: this book travels from Shilovo all the way to Addis Ababa. Yes, right there, in the very heart of Ethiopia, where the Russian Center for Science and Culture — our "Russian House".
Now, resting on one of its shelves, the history of the Shilovo region will stand as a quiet yet confident voice of the homeland that has reached a distant continent.
✨ The connecting link between these points is Elena Potapova-Khaylu. She lives in Ethiopia, but her heart remains with her home region. Elena has been a long-time friend of the Shilovo Museum: she has brought ethnographic materials, spoken about the memory of Gumilyov, organized virtual tours of Addis Ababa, and even presented a costume of the "Ryazan Amazons" — because for her, culture is not about display cases, but about movement and dialogue. Like Daria, she is a patriot in deeds, not words: her love for her homeland lives in every project, every meeting, and every brought exhibit.
🌏 The result is an amazing route: Shilovo ➔ Russia ➔ Ethiopia. The book becomes more than just text — it becomes a message. A message that the bond with one’s native land does not fade across kilometers or years. That memory can be passed on through words, through gestures, and through a single book lovingly handed over to live a new life.
