tmuxify 2.5 is out: safer examples, dry run, detached mode, and better nested layouts

I just released tmuxify 2.5 and 2.5.1.

tmuxify is a small CLI that creates tmux workspaces from YAML files. You define panes, splits, commands, and the starting focus, then run:

tmuxify

Main changes since 2.5:

Added --dry-run so you can preview and validate a layout before creating a session.
Added --no-commands so you can create the panes without running the commands.
Added --detach for scripts, CI, remote machines, and headless workflows.
Fixed nested layouts so complex pane trees now render correctly.
Fixed initial\_focus reliability.
Added stronger layout validation before tmux sessions are created.
Hardened update and export behavior.
Added CI and smoke tests for examples and core flows.

In 2.5.1, I focused only on the example layouts. I reviewed and cleaned up all bundled examples by persona: frontend, backend, DevOps, security, networking, data science, QA, and streaming.

A few examples of what changed:

Removed risky auto-running commands like packet capture, vulnerability scans, and forced sudo checks.
Replaced placeholder panes with more useful commands or clear instructions.
Added safer fallbacks for tools that may not exist on every machine.
Reorganized the examples guide so it is easier to find a layout that fits your workflow.

Try it:

tmuxify --dry-run --file examples/layouts/basic-3-pane.yml
tmuxify --file examples/layouts/basic-3-pane.yml

Feedback and layout contributions are welcome. If you have a tmux setup you use every day, I would love to turn it into a clean example.I just released tmuxify 2.5 and 2.5.1.tmuxify is a small CLI that creates tmux workspaces from YAML files. Better Way to Manage Multiple Monitors on Linux Without Full Display Flicker?

Need a hand! I've got 4 monitors on my desk for work, but keeping them all on nonstop is rough – energy bill adds up and my eyes are toast. I made a script to toggle them individually like:

cosmic-randr disable DP-3

Only issue is everything flickers and it bugs me, plus sometimes they all start flashing even if just one is off. Got a better way? Can't be flipping switches manually. 😩

I'm using wayland btw!

Thanks!

New Software se-pkg - an attempt at an all in one package manger on linux

I'm terrible at writing posts, but I'll try to say a bit about it. It's a utility made with Rust. I made it for the express purpose of using inside containerised distros made with Distrobox, since I found it annoying that I have to keep switching between ways of calling different package managers when you're in different Linux distros inside your main one. There are other usages too.

Hope you guys like it, maybe idk. You can find more info in here: https://github.com/barryC12/se-pkg

I had my canonical rm -rf / moment.

Not as bad to be fair as a real rm -rf / but not much better either. So pacman was misbehaving (kept failing downloads) so a quick search revealed users fix that by deleting what's inside /var/cache/pacman/pkg

Fine, I'm not really a Linux expert but what could go wrong, it's just a cache, right? But see, the folder had a ton of files so I thought it was finally time to use the terminal instead of dolphin, so I've written a quick and easy rm -rf var/cache/pacman/pkg which would've been completely fine, BUT I was unsure if I was remembering the command correctly and (funnily enough) I was scared of something going wrong and deleting everything (LOL). So I've made yet another quick search but in the hurry I've made the stupid mistake of reading that pos of the AI summary and it said:

To ensure hidden files are also removed, use:

rm -rf /path/to/folder/{*,.*}

Oh nice, there probably are hidden files in there, let me paste {*,.*} at the end and the rest is correct so send... (turns around to take the phone)

Wait... why is it removing that folder it shouldn't be there...

To cut short, when I ctrl+C'd it already had more than 100 lines on screen. I do not have a Download folder anymore, my themes are gone, my personal folder on the desktop too, hell every folder in my /home is empty, including the folder that I've setup as a mounting point for my secondary SSD that had 800GB of stuff in there... it's empty now.

So yeah I'm a dumbass, and PLEASE for the love of god, never copy-paste stuff from the AI summary ever.

Now you can have a well deserved laugh at me, or drop your rm disaster to make me feel better Xd

Eye strain on Linux but not on Windows - MSI Cyborg 15 A13V with RTX 4060 and Intel i7 13620H

Hey, been dealing with serious eye strain and headaches using Linux on my MSI Cyborg 15 A13V (Intel i7 13th gen, RTX 4060). Tried both Fedora and Pop!_OS, same issue on both. No problems at all on Windows.

The weird thing is I used Ubuntu in my college lab on machines with no dedicated GPU and had zero eye strain. So I'm guessing it's something to do with the hybrid GPU setup on Linux defaulting to Nvidia driving the display instead of Intel.

Already checked — the panel itself (AUO B156HAN15.1) is PWM-free so that's not the issue.

Has anyone dealt with this? Is forcing Intel iGPU to drive the display with prime-select intel the right move here? Any other things I should try?

Will Steam’s new “Steam Machine” improve Proton compatibility?

Will the Steam Machine launch and wider SteamOS use push Proton forward in Linux gaming? Could it get Linux to the point where most games are just click and play with no setup or fixes needed, or is that still far off?
