What do you think was the biggest turning point in Linux desktop history?

Have you ever stopped to think about how far Linux has come as a desktop OS? What do you think was the biggest turning point in its evolution?

Was it Ubuntu making Linux more accessible to ordinary users? The introduction of KDE and GNOME? The shift to Wayland? Or perhaps Proton finally making Linux a serious option for gaming?

Over the years, it's become harder for me to pinpoint a real turning point. I've been using Linux for so long that it's second nature to me now. I can pick pretty much any distro, install it, and if something doesn't work, I just fix it and move on. It's all part of everyday life at this point.

And yet, things could have gone differently, and we might all be sitting here using *that well-known, dominant OS* instead.

I'm interested in your personal opinions and experiences, not just technical milestones. It could be something that made Linux easier to install, improved the overall desktop experience, brought more applications, or convinced you to switch from Windows.
