Dealing with a bad SSD

So. My laptop is moderately old. 2017. It was my parents before. I kinda left it to die this January ( I got a real gaming pc.)

Its like 2am I have an assignment to do. So I go to grab my laptop. Try to turn it on. It wouldn't work. I saw some text flashing before a loading screen that would just spin forever.

Eventually I get sick of the stupid thing and go into grub and set loglevel to 7. Oks, oks, a massive wall of red, promises of user apps in the logs, then all greens again. It doesnt work.

Fast forward to right now. I realized the ssd was cooked at 2am but it was 2am and I didnt wanna fix it then.

So it starts out fine. I grab a USB stick and flash linux mint onto it to have something to work off to fix it.

The ssd for like 4 hours keeps getting into this stupid cycls:

Appears on lsblk(always)

Smart doesn't work

Can't read superblock

Reboot

It works perfectly fine for a little bit then back to the last Cycle.

Eventually i get it working for long enough to transfer 3 gigabytes out over netcat. I didnt get all my important documents that was just a test. I thought of going to sleep so I shut off my pc and laptop snd layed in bed. I couldn't fall asleep. I turned them both back on and lo and behold the ssd is in rhe stupid broken loop again.

Here's the session

mint@mint:/media/mint$ echo "- - -" | sudo tee /sys/class/scsi_host/host*/scan

\---

mint@mint:/media/mint$ ls

mint@mint:/media/mint$ ls

mint@mint:/media/mint$ ls

mint@mint:/media/mint$ cd ..

mint@mint:/media$ ls

cdrom mint

mint@mint:/media$ cd mint

mint@mint:/media/mint$ ls

mint@mint:/media/mint$ lsblk

NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINTS

loop0 7:0 0 2.5G 1 loop /rofs

sdb 8:16 1 28.8G 0 disk

├─sdb1 8:17 1 2.9G 0 part /cdrom

├─sdb2 8:18 1 5M 0 part

└─sdb3 8:19 1 25.9G 0 part /var/log
