The origin of adding s to a pet name to make it more affectionate? eg "Hello, babes!"
As in when people say "Hello, babes!", "Come here, sweeties." or "Morning, my lovelies." to refer to one person. I'm from Maine in the US, and my family is from New Brunswick in Canada.
