I recently tried the new auctex 14.2.0, which has an option such that the preview can show along with the math environment.

For the usual text, the active region has a different color. For the math env being previewed, however, the background color is the same. For example, in the above screenshot I selected
\ddot{\phi}^2 and the foreground color is different, but it is still hard to see the difference. I am not sure if this is a new behavior or it was there in the previous versions. Does anyone have the same issue or know how to change this?
