The U.S. Department of Energy has launched the Quantum Genesis Q competition with an anticipated funding of up to $215 million. Participants are challenged to build a fault-tolerant quantum computer with at least 100 logical qubits, capable of performing hundreds of millions of operations with error correction. The DOE expects to obtain not just another experimental processor with a large number of physical qubits, but a system suitable for solving real-world scientific problems.
