On October 3, 1977, Deputy Lynn Lewis, 35, assigned to Lynwood Station, was en route back from assisting at a chief of police conference where he served in a support capacity when he lost control of his vehicle on the San Bernardino Freeway near Lark Ellen Avenue in West Covina and crashed into a pole.
Lewis who was a deputy for six years, also served as a policeman for the Rochester, New York Police Department before joining the LASD.
