Wouter, a police K-9 from The Redondo Beach Police Department in Southern California, is recovering from his injuries after a man allegedly bit part of his ear off during a standoff.

Police say the suspect, a wanted felon, barricaded himself inside a home and refused to surrender.

Police sent Wouter inside the home to help officers arrest the man. The suspect then bit the dog and tore off a portion of his ear, police said.

"Wouter" means "powerful warrior" in Dutch.
"Wishing our bestest boy a speedy recovery, and want him to get all the scratchies and treats," the department posted on Facebook.🙏🏻
