WATCH: Roanoke police chief Jeff Williams talks about the officer who was injured during a chase with a suspect on a motorcycle over the weekend.
Roanoke Police Chief Jeff Williams spoke during a news conference Monday afternoon, identifying the officer injured in a weekend accident as 36-year-old Corporal Kevin Buchanan.
Williams noted Buchanan has been a police officer for 11 years, the last 3 with Roanoke police. He's also been a certified motorcycle officer since 2018.
"Cpl. Buchanan has a long road to recovery ahead of him, but the Roanoke Police Department remains hopeful and continues to stand alongside him and his family during this difficult time.
We would like to thank our community, other law enforcement agencies, other first responders, and everyone else that has reached out to us, for their continued support of Cpl. Buchanan, his family, and our department during this time."🙏🏻
