Barnstable police provided an update Wednesday on an officer they say was seriously injured when a drunken driver struck him while leaving a ZZ Top concert Saturday night.

Officer Peter Ginnetty, a 19-year veteran of the department, suffered several serious injuries in the crash, including multiple broken bones, police said.

“Officer Ginnetty remains positive and will face a long recovery ahead,” the police department wrote in a statement. “We ask that everyone continues to keep Officer Ginnetty and his family in your thoughts during this difficult time. The support shown by the community has been heartfelt and is deeply appreciated.”
