Moonflower Kernel v2.6 - "Frank Zappa & The Mothers Of Invention - Inca Roads" | Android 12L/13
Updated: 27/12/2022

▪️Download (repartitioned)
▪️Download (non repartitioned)

Changelog:
• Upstream latest KGSL driver from CAF 4.4 (LA.UM.9.2.c26)
• USB Force fast charging and enabled by default. (0.5A -> 0.9A)
• Up-limit from 10.5W (Set by Google) to 15.5W for Pixel 2 XL (Taimen) battery. This up-limit is actually defined in the driver but almost never used. No changes for Pixel 2 (Walleye) though, it is already limited to 12W. Note: Disabling "force fast charging" above, will disable this hack too.
• Scheduler: Backport Simplified EAS. Compute energy in the wake-up path, hence reducing the calculation time.
• Scheduler: Ensure tasks are available for a grace period after leaving the run-queue.
• Optimizing "finish_task_switch" a.k.a the hottest path in kernel.
• Scheduler/nohz: Optimize "get_nohz_timer_target" function. Minimize the worst searching time from ~44us to < 10us for latency.
• Introducing Coresight placeholder. Probe to detect coresights and disables it to save some power.
• Hibernate non-volatile storage a.k.a our SSD during suspend.
• Power Management / Sleep: Expedite garbage collection if idle. For wake-locks.
• Fix high brightness bug on Natural/Boosted of ROMs' display color mode caused by flicker-free driver.
• Binder, Ufshcd and other fixes and optimizations.
• Silences some debug crufts.

Changelog:
• Increase Devfreq boost to 9887. Reset mincpubw values on dtsi as boosting devfreq is enough.
• Boost devfreq when commiting a new frame to reduce display latency.
• Set High Pritorty to KGSL (graphic) workqueue to reduce display latency.
• Remove useless mutex on adreno dispatch driver.
• Remove partial update region delays on display panel driver. Avoid potential dropped frame caused by these delays.
• Backport Binder 5.10. Also, set binder thread to have high priority.
• Scheduler: Run NOHZ idle load balancer on housekeeping CPUs. Lower jitter.
• Scheduler: Move schedtune en/dequeue before schedutil update triggers.
• Schedutil: Hardcode ratelimits to scheduler RR timeslice value, every 4ms for 250hz, to tighten the timing of CPU frequency changes.
• Since the scheduler and priority fixes above, we don't actually need to enable the prefer_high_cap for foreground tasks. Disable it to save some battery.
• Make CFQ default to IOPS mode on SSDs. Yep pretty sure we have non rotational disk.
• Flash storage host driver: mark IRQ as performance critical and increase query timeout.
• File-system: Drop page caches on screen-off. This will ensure enough free memory on screen-on request.
• Set -03 performance flag for input drivers.
add NEON accelerated XOR implementation
"This is a NEON acceleration method that can improve
performance by approximately 20%."
• Some Libs (string, string_helper, list_sort, cmdline) backports and optimizations.
• Avoid more dynamic memory allocations.
• Zsmalloc, Zram, Selinux upstream and fixes.
• Reduce more the kernel binary size.
• Testing result: Cooler CPU temperature by 3-4 C on idle.

Changelog:
• Reduce config_hz from 300hz to 250hz. Jitter value is now significantly stable under 0.5 ms without sacrificing performance.
• Set devfreq frequency to a higher value on Maximum big cluster frequency to reduce bottleneck.
• Sched: separate boost signal from placement hint. Enable 'prefer_high_cap' on top-app and foreground tasks.
• Properly set "bw_hwmon" governor for cpubw for both battery and performance improvements.
• Disable user-space/rom ability to wake up devices from low power mode (lpm-level) driver.
Improve WiFi driver battery usage. Reduce 5% of CPU times when WiFi hotspot is on.
• Cache register values when performing clock control. (Expensive I/O mitigation)
• Patch series "lib/sort & lib/list_sort: faster and smaller".
• Improve display rendering latency.
• General Scheduler, Memory management and File-system improvements.

Changelog:
• Under-volt and overclock the GPU to 750 Mhz for better performance and battery life.
• Deterministic; Avoid some userspace boosting (for eg: rom's powerhint) from interfering with kernel values.
• Fix AOD issue on Walleye caused by the Flicker-free driver. Thank you for patiently testing :) @hexagonal707
• Turn off schedtune boost for top-app and enable prefer_idle for foreground app. Reason: let the upstream scheduler decides what to do. Stable jitter value observed.
• Revert high brightness mode.

Looking ahead

With our recent attempt with @lndscpr towards the expansion of Google Pixel 2 developers who can give me a strong helping hand with Mr. Worldwide, and our unsuccessful attempt to ship towards Turkey, I was in the prospect of reaching out to different developers.

That was until I resorted to a close, experienced and know it all @J0SH1X.
@J0SH1X, experienced across many devices and OEMs such as Huawei/Google with the 6P, with very attentive skillsets to bring-up Android 10 with @delet_thiskthx and I, LG, OnePlus and Samsung devices, with close relation with Qualcomm SOCs.

I saw that @J0SH1X would fit this community easily, providing support to her own projects and even helping out with @PixelExperience as a co-maintainer.
This would also provide a sense of future-proofing for the community knowing that if I am stumbled, I am able to depend on a diverse set of skills from different developers if needed.

Speaking about future-proofing, @lndscpr will not be dismissed, and if the opportunity ever comes that @lndscpr can be supplied with a Pixel 2 handset, I shall take it in a heartbeat to provide a device for which in that possible future, @lndscpr can join both @J0SH1X, I and the other Pixel 2 developers for a fruitful community.

The next step to all this is to receive Mr. Worldwide in Malta, enquire about this move with the donators for @lndscpr's attempt and take the next step from there.
In the meantime, pop in to say hi to @J0SH1X and provide a warm welcome.

Good News on a Sour End
Following Mr. Worldwide's disappointing ending to Turkey, towards @lndscpr, I would like to re-assure everyone that the device is enroute back to Malta.
Although it is great news that the device has not been lost during this transit, I am underwhelmed that this promise was not delivered due to country laws and legislations in Turkey.

Let this be an apology from me towards all those who were looking forward to this collaboration taking place, and even further to @frobolet and @dvrkplayer who went out of their way to pledge towards this attempt to make this project a reality.

I shall be keeping a close eye on how the situation develops, especially with regards to refunding those who pledged to this promise as it isn't a truthful result that the device returned to me with no consequence.
On this note, I would still like everyone to give a warm welcome to @lndscpr, although with no device still went out of their way to support me and many others in the Pixel 2 community.

That's all I have to say for now and once again thanks and apologies for this occurrence.
