Other groups may have inhabited this soil before the arrival of Europeans, and others may be here now. But New England as the civilization we once knew — and the New England we hope to see in the future — was built and fought for by men and women of English, Irish, French, German, Scottish, Portuguese, and Italian descent. And it will be so again.”
