🏫 The DAWN Group within the Institute of Earth Surface Dynamics and Expertise Center for Climate Extremes at the University of Lausanne (UNIL) is inviting applications for a fully funded PhD position lasting up to 5 years.

📘 The position centers on pioneering research at the intersection of atmospheric physics and artificial intelligence.

🔬 Research Scope & Custom Project Proposal

🔎 Candidates are expected to propose a creative research idea spanning atmospheric physics (e.g., aerosol–cloud interactions, atmospheric convection, tropical meteorology, extremes) and scientific machine learning (e.g., causal ML, hybrid physics–AI modeling, generative modeling, operator learning).

🗂 Candidate Profile & Qualifications

📚 Education: Master's degree (completed or expected before start date) in Atmospheric Science, Climate Science, Physics, Applied Math, Statistics, Computer Science, or Data Science.

⚙ Technical Skills: Strong scientific programming and data-analysis skills (preferably Python) with experience handling large scientific datasets or numerical models.

🆎 Languages: Fluent in English (French or German are not required).

💰 Salary, Funding & Key Dates

Salary & Perks: Annual salary scaling from ~CHF 54k (Year 1) to ~CHF 63k (Year 5), plus 5 weeks paid holiday, computing hardware/GPU access, conference travel, and publication funding.

🗓 Target Start Date: March 1, 2027.

💡 نکات مهم قبل از ارسال مقاله
🔸 تنها داشتن یک نتیجه جدید کافی نیست؛ مقاله باید اهمیت و اثرگذاری قابل‌توجهی در فوتونیک داشته باشد.
🔸 مقاله باید نشان دهد که نتیجه شما چه تغییری در وضعیت فعلی دانش یا فناوری ایجاد می‌کند.
🔸 کیفیت داده‌های تجربی، تحلیل نظری و استحکام استدلال‌ها اهمیت بسیار زیادی دارد.
🔸 عنوان و چکیده باید در همان نگاه اول، اهمیت و پیام اصلی پژوهش را مشخص کنند.

🎓 PhD scholarship on the “Development of student’s competences in semiconductor education” available with Rinn Semiconductors and based at Dublin City University

🔎 Rinn Semiconductors is part of a constellation of seven major new centres funded by Research Ireland, which collectively represent an investment of €460M in advanced research by the Government of Ireland. Rinn Semiconductors aims to lead Ireland’s response to the end of Moore’s Law scaling, the point where traditional improvements in computer chips slows down or ends, by pioneering modular integrated circuit-based (chiplet-based) semiconductor design and integration. With deep expertise in the areas of Heterogeneous Integration and Advanced Packaging, the Rinn Semiconductors team propose to enable transformative advances in these technologies and to apply them in three main application areas: Future Internet, Sustainable Energy and Environment, and Digital Healthcare. A key objective of the Rinn is to foster deep collaboration across the seven universities and institutions involved, by leveraging the semiconductor fabrication facilities at Tyndall, ultimately creating a cohesive “atom to systems” value chain in Ireland, connecting everything from basic materials research through to complete technology solutions. The Rinn will operate in close collaboration with Ireland’s vibrant semiconductor industry sector which supports 20,000 high skilled jobs and includes world leading multinational companies, small and medium sized enterprises and start-ups.

✨ We are looking for a motivated master student with a strong background in Solid State Physics to perform a highly explorative Master Thesis project at the Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials.

📚 The selected student will work on a project situated at the boundary between device physics and surface science.

🤓 More specifically, the student will prepare highly ordered quantum dots thin films on substrates and investigate their structural and electronic properties via low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and spectroscopy (STS).

👨‍🏫👩‍🏫 The selected student will work under the co-supervision of Prof. Maria Antonietta Loi, a researcher in the field of quantum dots-based opto-electronic devices, and Dr. Roberto Lo Conte, expert in low-temperature STM/STS investigations of quantum materials such as 2D magnets, superconductors and their hybrids.
