Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Applied Mathematics, Energy Systems
Are you passionate about advancing sustainable energy solutions and eager to contribute to the decarbonisation of our global energy systems? If you are driven by the challenge of applying cutting-edge modelling and simulation techniques to real-world problems, the University of Warwickβs Centre for Doctoral Training in the Modelling of Heterogeneous Materials (HetSys) offers an exceptional opportunity to make a tangible impact through doctoral research.
The PhD project, "Turning Up the Heat: Modelling and Scale-Up of Thermochemical Energy Storage," addresses one of the most pressing challenges of our timeβdecarbonising the global energy system. Heating accounts for nearly half of global energy use and 40% of energy-related CO2 emissions, making it a critical target for sustainable innovation. Thermochemical energy storage (TCES) offers a promising pathway to store and release energy via reversible chemical reactions, supporting a low-carbon energy grid and facilitating the integration of renewable resources. This research focuses specifically on sodium hydroxide (NaOH) water TCES systems, leveraging abundant and cost-effective materials to develop scalable, efficient energy storage solutions. By improving our understanding and modelling of these systems, the project aims to accelerate the adoption of TCES technologies, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and contribute significantly to global decarbonisation efforts.
