The core focus of this PhD project is the thermodynamic modelling of chloride migration in concrete subjected to accelerated chloride ingress conditions. Chloride-induced corrosion is a leading cause of deterioration in reinforced concrete infrastructure, especially in marine environments and regions where de-icing salts are used. Accurately predicting how chlorides penetrate, bind, and interact within concrete is crucial for improving the service-life assessment and durability design of structures such as bridges, tunnels, and buildings.
