🔐 Multisig vs MPC: Which One Makes More Sense for a Family Office?
In a recent project for a Family Office, we looked at one fundamental question:
⁉️ How do you structure control over crypto assets so that no single person has unilateral access to the capital?
⚖️ We compared two approaches — Multisig and MPC.
🔑 With Multisig, multiple independent private keys exist. For example, you can have five keys and require any three of them to approve a transaction.
🧩 With MPC, there is no single complete private key. Control is distributed across cryptographic shares, with multiple parties participating in the signing process.
🎯 The goal is the same: eliminate a single point of failure and distribute control over the assets
But the operating models are different.
🏦 Multisig can make more sense for conservative, long-term storage, where physical separation of keys is a priority.
⚡ MPC can offer more flexibility for active asset management — different user roles, transaction limits and approval policies, as well as access to multiple networks, exchanges, staking, and DeFi.
❓ So the question in our analysis wasn’t simply:
“Which one is more secure?”
💡 It was:
“Which architecture actually fits the way this Family Office manages its capital?”
🔐 Multisig or MPC — if your own capital were at stake, which one would you choose, and why?
