@asylwsk00 – asked about how to build vocabulary
My tips just a few days before your speaking exam:
1. I make my own flashcards for the most common/essential topics such as environment, health, education, etc.
Example:
My favourite singer: aespa
Why: because of their stunning visuals, siren-like voices, and energetic performances.
👉 You can make your own cards with this type of vocabulary and remember to review them every day/frequently so you don’t forget on the real exam.
2. I used to practice with my friend, who is also taking IELTS (tomorrow!). She always gives me proper feedback and useful hacks for speaking.
3. I played a lot of English-based games such as
Final Fantasy, Call of Duty, Genshin, and so on, because these games contain a wide range of vocabulary in their prologues and lore.
4. I have many foreign friends, and my whole feed on TikTok/Instagram is only in English.
5. Don’t panic in the real exam. Don’t try to act nonchalant by using inappropriate words or idioms—use words that are suitable for the question.
Example: Examiner asked me:
Do you think philosophy is still a relevant profession in modern society?
I responded: Absolutely, because every occupation has its own specific place in the workforce, so philosophy is still one of the most valuable professions, even after hundreds of years.
6. Make eye contact and try not to be nervous—it may distract you.
