Orthodox Christianity in Post-Political America

Dear friends, In a time when many Americans feel disillusioned with the endless political circus—where elections change little and the system seems rigged against the ordinary person—a profound shift is underway. As economic hardships deepen and faith in temporal power fades, people are turning inward, seeking true transcendence, permanence, and meaning beyond the "Clown World."The article argues that only the ancient Orthodox Church, founded by Christ Himself, offers authentic holiness, worship, and preparation for the Age to Come—untethered from politics and prosperity gospels. A timely reflection just in time for Christmas: "If you can’t beat the system, then transcend the system. The only thing offering actual transcendence is God." Read the full piece here:

In today's digital world, search engines, AI, and Big Tech actively suppress alternative viewpoints to enforce "official narratives"—even on faith-related sites like Orthodox Reflections. Our site was hit with a Google penalty for "medical misinformation" simply because we questioned the vaccine consensus. Now lifted amid growing admissions of risks (e.g., former CDC Director calling to curtail mRNA vaccines).Key takeaways: Don't blindly trust AI or search results. Pray for discernment, demand evidence, verify independently, and share truth directly.Read the full article and arm yourself with wisdom:

Akathist to the Most Holy Name of Jesus by Saint Nikodemos the Hagiorite

In the rich tradition of Orthodox hymnography, Saint Nikodemos the Hagiorite (1749–1809), the great Athonite ascetic, theologian, and reviver of hesychasm, composed a profound work dedicated to the Most Holy Name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Known as Prayers to Our Lord Jesus Christ, this poetic masterpiece is, in essence, an Akathist — a hymn of praise structured in the classic form with 24 stanzas arranged alphabetically according to the Greek alphabet. Saint Nikodemos wrote it with the explicit purpose of inspiring the faithful "to continuously meditate upon and repeat the salvific, most sweet, and joy-producing Name of our Lord Jesus Christ."This Akathist beautifully echoes the spirit of the Jesus Prayer — "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner" — which St. Nikodemos championed as a cornerstone of noetic prayer and inner stillness. Though not as widely known in English as other Akathists, this work is a treasure of Orthodox spirituality, reminding us of the power inherent in the Divine Name: "Thou shalt call His Name Jesus, for He shall save His people from their sins" (Matthew 1:21).In an age of distraction, St. Nikodemos calls us back to the heart of the faith — ceaseless invocation of the Name that is "above every name" (Philippians 2:9).May we, through the prayers of this great saint, learn to honor and invoke the Most Holy Name of Jesus with reverence and love. For those seeking the full text, it is available in English translation in the book "Prayers to Our Lord Jesus Christ & A Safeguard for the Soul" by St. Nikodemos, translated by Fr. George Dokos (Uncut Mountain Press). Through the intercessions of St. Nikodemos the Hagiorite, Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and save us. Amen.

NEW IN THE WESTERN SERIES! Part IX: Reactionary Reform Rejects Holy TraditionIn this eye-opening installment, explore how the Protestant Reformation's "sola scriptura" rejected the living Holy Tradition—the unwritten teachings from Christ and the Apostles preserved by the Orthodox Church. This led to fragmentation, heresies, and a loss of authentic Christianity.Key insights:
❖ Holy Tradition as the "unwritten book of the New Testament" (St. Nektarios of Aegina)
❖ Rejection of saints, icons, and sacraments as actual Body and Blood
❖ Why changing Tradition falsifies history and denies the Holy Spirit"To change Holy Tradition amounts to falsifying history, denying the Holy Spirit, and changing the Gospel message."Discover the path back to unchanged Orthodoxy! Read now:

☦️ The Second Coming of Christ and the Last Judgment: Are We Ready?

“Behold, He comes with the clouds, and every eye will see Him” (Rev 1:7).

Dear brothers and sisters,

When the Lord Jesus Christ returns in glory, it will not be as the humble Child of Bethlehem, nor as the suffering Servant on the Cross, but as the fearful Judge of the living and the dead. The heavens will be rolled up like a scroll, the elements will melt with fervent heat, and every human soul—from Adam to the last person born—will stand before His throne.

There will be no place to hide.

No excuse will stand.

No repentance after death.

The books will be opened.

Our words, thoughts, and deeds—every idle word, every secret sin, every act of love or hatred—will be revealed in the light of His countenance.

Yet this same fearful Judge is the One who stretched out His arms on the Cross for us. The One who desires not the death of the sinner, but that he should turn and live.

☦️ Now is the time of mercy.

After the Second Coming—only justice.

Let us fall on our knees today.

Let us confess, repent, pray, fast, give alms, forgive, and love while we still have time.

“Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.” (Matt 25:13)

☦️New Akathist Published: “Akathist in Preparation for Jesus’ Second Coming”“Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of Man cometh.” (Matt. 25:13)In these apocalyptic times, when wars, plagues, lawlessness, and the spirit of antichrist grow bolder by the day, the Church gives us a powerful spiritual weapon: an akathist that turns our hearts and minds toward the one thing that truly matters — the glorious and dread Second Coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. This new akathist calls us to: Repentance while there is still time
Vigilance against deception
Longing for the Kingdom that is to come
Trust in Christ’s final victory over all evil

Read it, pray it, share it. Let every “Rejoice!” be a defiance of the darkness and every plea a preparation of the soul for the Bridegroom’s return. Full text now available on Orthodox Reflections:

🇺🇦 Metropolitan Onuphry of Ukraine – The Man the West Must Hide

While Western media floods the airwaves with stories about “Russian aggression” against the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, one man stands quietly in the way of their narrative:

His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry, Primate of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC).

☦️ He leads the Church that historically unites millions of Ukrainian faithful with roots going back to St. Vladimir’s baptism in 988.

☦️ He has never blessed war, never called for violence, and consistently pleads for peace and dialogue.

☦️ He refused to stand when Zelensky entered the Rada in 2022 – not out of hatred, but because he will not mix the altar with political theater.

☦️ Under his leadership, the UOC has remained independent from Moscow since 2022, yet still the government raids monasteries, seizes cathedrals, and drafts clergy.

Why does the West ignore him or smear him as a “Moscow puppet”?

Because his very existence destroys the black-and-white fairy tale they need to sell: that there is only one “good” Orthodox Church in Ukraine (the state-created OCU) and one “evil” one controlled by the Kremlin.

Metropolitan Onuphry is living proof that millions of Ukrainians want neither Constantinople’s interference nor Moscow’s administration – they simply want to pray in the Church of their fathers, in peace.

The more monasteries are stormed and priests arrested, the clearer it becomes: the real target is not “Russian influence.”

The real target is authentic Orthodoxy that refuses to salute political power.

New on Orthodox Reflections:Akathist to the Holy Martyrs Manuel, Savel, and Ismael
(The Three Holy Brothers martyred in Persia under Julian the Apostate, 362 AD)These valiant brothers, sent as peace envoys by Emperor Julian himself, boldly confessed Christ before the pagan fire-worshippers, endured cruel tortures with joy, and received the crown of martyrdom together in the flames. Their love for Christ was stronger than brotherly blood, stronger than fear of death. Now they stand before the Throne of God, praying for all who call upon them in faith — especially for courage in persecution, for unity among brethren, and for strength to confess Orthodoxy without compromise. Apostolic succession was established by Christ, who ordained His Twelve Apostles. To succeed them in the mission of the growing Church, “The Twelve” ordained Bishops as leaders, Priests as celebrants of the Divine Liturgy, and Deacons as servers. In turn, the Bishops ordained their successors and overseers. Development of Church governance was necessary because, even while being ruthlessly persecuted, the Church continued to advance and grow. Since the Roman Empire was divided into provinces, each with its own governor, the Church organized itself along the same lines; and the Bishops, all of whom had been ordained exactly the same way and with the same ecclesial authority, fell into four different administrative categories: Rural Bishops for medium-sized cities and their surrounding regions, Metropolitan Bishops for larger cities and their regions, Archbishops for states and provinces, and Patriarchal Bishops for large areas or countries, called “sees.” https://orthodoxreflections.com/part-vii-of-the-western-series-papal-apostacy-supremacy-and-infallibility/
