As Safely was released yesterday, let me walk through some of its design features.

Feature 1: Love & respect.

Safely is designed to be loved. We build it for ourselves, our families and friends. Safely does not give investment advice, does not promote earning schemes and other zero-sum trading activities. Instead, Safely provides you with strong security, privacy and peace of mind. Owning your own money with your own cryptographic keys is the prerequisite for your sovereignty and Safely respects that.

Feature 2: Safely Sync as a secure backup.

Wallet recovery phrases are a poor interface for humans handling cryptographic secrets. Keeping copies leaves traces everywhere — your pasteboard, photos, email, paper notes — yet finding one when needed can be hard. Instead of solving the problem of redundant key storage, most wallets leave customers to safeguard those precious secrets.

Safely solves this the hard way: the only creatures capable of handling cryptography are portable computers, so let them do it. Safely Sync automatically synchronizes wallets, address books, settings and whatnot between your personal devices. Lose one, and recover access to your entire crypto account from another.

Sync is end-to-end encrypted: devices securely exchange keys without anyone in the middle. Our servers route updates but cannot see their contents. It is also decentralized: neither the order nor the server matters. The protocol allows syncing over Bluetooth, local WiFi or other servers, including your own. These features aren't supported by the app yet, but may be added in the future.

Safely always keeps backup status clear to the user: a dedicated tab shows all your devices, when they last synced and whether any wallets are missing — so you can easily see whether your wallets are safely stored.

Check out our dedicated article that explains how Sync and accounts work in Safely.

Feature 3: Multiple Wallets.

Safely makes it super-easy to keep your money organized. Create separate wallets for spending, for savings, for family and for work. Add watch-only wallets (to avoid keeping keys on your phone) or add a Ledger if you have one.

Switching between wallets takes one click. Drag-and-drop works right there in the list of wallets, so you can arrange them exactly the way you like.

Safely makes sure it is always clear which wallet is currently selected when you send money or view transaction details, so you don't make a mistake. That's why there are also color tags and emojis to choose from: to make them not only personal, but easily recognizable.

Feature 4: Over-engineered price chart.

For some people, the price chart is the most important feature in a wallet. So we made sure the chart gets all the love we could give it.
The horizontal axis is individually crafted for each time interval and aligns on the natural boundaries. So, the 7-day view aligns on the days of the week, the 90-day view — on each month and so on. We also tuned the vertical axis for easy-to-read intervals and less clutter. The 1-month bitcoin price chart will look lovely. The chart is fully interactive. Swipe your finger over the chart to see the historical prices. Use two fingers to see the performance between two points in time.

Aside from the chart, there are many ways to configure how you want to see your balance and transaction amounts, and with what precision. Tap the currency button in the top-left corner to see all the options.

Bitcoin is a quantum particle

Bitcoin has this thing: blockchain. But it is not, in fact, a chain. It is a tree of chains. Bitcoin software does not determine which chain is the final one, just like it does not define which transaction is the final one. Instead, Bitcoin gives you the truth and a tool.

The truth is, in a decentralized network it is unknowable what information you miss. And more importantly, it is unknowable what information others are having. There might be a fork in the chain somewhere, or any number of forks. And you may hear about it soon enough or later, or too late, or maybe never.
The tool that Bitcoin gives you is a simple protocol to deal with the information that you receive from the network. It consists of three steps: you can (1) filter out invalid data, (2) switch to a most-weight chain as a source of truth, (3) decide for yourself how deep the payment transaction should be inside that chain for you to take the risk of calling it final and acting upon it (e. g. by providing the service in response).

Turns out, the protocol outlined above (“the tool”) is necessary to have a chance of achieving consensus with majority of other users on the network. Let me prove that real quick. First, filtering out invalid data is simply setting the language of the game, so all nodes agree on the basic rules and boundaries. Second, “always switching to the most-weight chain” means no one is permanently stuck on a weaker chain, so a would-be attacker has to overcome the majority of the mining nodes to affect the majority of the users. An attacker might partition the network and fool some nodes to a minority chain, but those nodes have a chance of being healed by getting the information from the majority via some roundabout means: via proxies, hum radio, pigeon post etc. Finally, the decision on finality rests with each individual user because of the openness and uncertainty in the network. If anyone, in principle, can fork the blockchain at any point in time and thus revert any subgraph of transactions, then there is no possibility for the formal definition of finality. Considering payment final is a subjective decision on behalf of a risk-taker. You can wait longer to stay safer and calculate the risk based on your own world-view against the profit and risks of acting quick and opportunity costs of acting slow.
Now, back to our tree of chains. Given the rules above there is one consequence that may surprise some people. What do you think should happen inside a Bitcoin node if it receives a single-block fork from some older block? That block would obviously be of a much lesser weight and won’t affect the current node in any way. Or would it? All Bitcoin nodes in such case would not only accept that block (if it is formally valid, of course), but also relay it to all other nodes. Because the node cannot know if that block is the beginning of a great chain which you might receive soon and switch over to. But if you ignore lesser chains than your current one you run a risk of being stuck on a weaker chain forever. That’s why, for the purpose of resilience and therefore consistency with the peers, every Bitcoin node propagates every valid fork and stores it forever.

In a way, Bitcoin’s block-tree data structure resembles a quantum particle that exists in multiple possible states and delays manifestation of a particular state until it is necessary to interact with the environment. You only need to be concerned about what chain is heavier and whether transaction is final, when you have to act upon a specific transaction of interest — that’s when you look at the most-weight chain and decide how deep you want your transaction to be in it. At all other times, Bitcoin node treats all chains as equally worthy and does not decide anything about any transaction.

Takeaway: in order to achieve consistency in the complex environment of a decentralized network, the nodes must be open to maximum uncertainty and delay decision-making as much as possible.

Flame: the future of Bitcoin

Second, we are revisiting the original issue. Bitcoin is valuable because it’s robust, and because of that it can’t be made even more useful to make an even bigger impact. Altcoins cannot improve or steal Bitcoin’s value because they are designed to extract value from users towards promoters.

To solve this dilemma we are going to build Flame: the new kind of crypto-currency network that is built on top of Bitcoin and is designed to address most of Bitcoin’s shortcomings without compromising on security, decentralization or monetary value. Flame creates a new decentralized network with confidential transactions, scalable smart contracts, fast confirmation times and fair asset value and security derived from Bitcoin. Without pre-mine, without special privileges for miners, developers or validators. Flame is built with over a decade of experience in crypto-currency design with the aim to deliver a pervasive peer-to-peer electronic cash.

Flame is in the early development stage. The technology overview, whitepaper and the source code will be released soon. Launch is planned in October-December 2026.

Safely: the self-custody wallet that cares

First, we start with the correct attitude. We must treat cryptocurrencies as a new reality and a very personal capital-preservation tool, not as a “platform” or “ecosystem” with activity in and of itself, turning the whole thing into an effective unregulated gambling arena. Crypto must solve real long-standing problems in the real world: keep and preserve value securely and help with transactions. Wallets and tools must be designed to serve their users, not to serve their creators at the expense of the users.

Towards that point we are building Safely: the self-custody wallet that cares. Safely stores your bitcoins and other cryptos in one easy to use app, organizes the wallets and accounts and makes all the boring and obvious things correctly and beautifully. Safely is solving the toxic nature of seed phrases with end-to-end sync between your personal devices. With Safely you no longer need to write down secret words that are impossible to remember and so easy to lose: the wallet keys always remain within the devices you own and trust. Safely respects your privacy, runs on open standards and open source code; protects you against supply chain attacks, censorship and vendor lock-in.

With Safely we bring back the long-forgotten tradition of marrying solid technology with liberal arts. We build a wallet for ourselves, our families and our colleagues. And we welcome everyone to join us.

Safely is launching in private beta in June 2026. Public release scheduled in September 2026.

Building the future

In the past 13 years, I did extensive cryptography research, developed a number of decentralized protocols at Chain/Interstellar, designed a breakthrough blockchain engine ZkVM, and spent years building products for real users.

For the last four years, together with the TON developer community and key ecosystem partners, I helped build the TON ecosystem. My team created TonkeeperTON Connect, the TON API developer platform, the industry’s first gasless infrastructure with W5 account abstraction, on-chain recurring subscriptions protocol, Tonkeeper Pro with best-in-class multisig support, an on-chain 2FA, a liquid staking protocol, and Tact language that opened door to next-gen development tooling.

I am very proud of the results of this journey. This was my first serious experience as a co-founder and CEO. I met incredible people, learned the hard way how to build teams and a business, made the mistakes one has to make, and grew as a person.

By the end of 2025, I had accomplished what I set out to do at TON and Tonkeeper, and it was time to move on to the next chapter.

Next chapter

Since the beginning of 2026 I and my team have started work towards the hardest problem in crypto: turning Bitcoin into actual money.

Bitcoin is the most secure monetary asset in crypto and constitutes solid 70% of the total market cap. Its strength comes from simplicity and restraint: Bitcoin is great store of value. Many failed attempts to fork, upgrade or otherwise mess with Bitcoin are a testament to that robustness. The few successful upgrades were obvious bug fixes and backwards-compatible improvements that took years to design and deploy.

But robustness alone is not enough. To become everyday money, Bitcoin needs to be more useful: fast payments, privacy, programmability, stable assets, richer accounts and better user experience. The rest of the crypto industry has explored many of these, but mostly across disconnected networks with painful tradeoffs in decentralization, security, monetary credibility, custody or user protection.

The industry remains stuck. Bitcoin has the strongest foundation, but limited everyday utility; newer networks offer useful capabilities, but too often as expert tools, trading venues or experimental playgrounds rather than solid money for everyone.

Problem 1: the crypto industry has a reputation of “99% casino and 1% weirdos”.

Problem 2: the improvements over Bitcoin are fragmented across local optima: they neither replace Bitcoin nor help it become better, more ubiquitous money.

What is needed is the transformation of store of value into currency. We need everyday money that is secure against confiscation, inflation, privacy violations and developers’ abuse. And we need to treat crypto as a tool for people to rely on in their daily lives with a peace of mind.

Re-humanize yourselves

Christopher Nolan is, of course, a genius. Because as far back as ten years ago he had a very LLM-like robot — practically one-to-one with ChatGPT in audio mode today — but in the dumbest possible mechanical shell, so you wouldn’t forget that you were giving commands to a robot, not a person. In the film, this was probably driven by the need not to dilute the theme of saving humanity with the theme of transhumanism. But in the end, it makes for a very fitting illustration of this article by User8: AIs are a Siren Song

The problem with ChatGPT for many people is that it works like a worse version of self-taught Skype therapist. And what’s worse, the interface of ChatGPT is the same as the interface of the people around you: a humble text chat. People trained themselves to communicate this way and now are easily falling into the robot hallucination trap.

My view: robots should simply serve the genius of human thought. They should look like an obvious dumb machine, while people should meet each other in person more often.
