"So far, every one of these creations of empires has been a failure; it has always meant a loss of racial strength. It was the lack of racial awareness that has still led those who embody the reich to seek other justifications for the monumental task, as well as for the simple and sobering fact that for the people of Germanic blood, one is introducing the Germanic order, which corresponds to their nature. They have strayed from the path; they have embraced universalist ideas, they have invoked otherworldly concepts, they have, as it were, allowed the reich to be bestowed upon them from above. Consider the first empire, the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation; its primary justification was not the unification of the Germanic people, but the continuation of the Roman Empire. Then Christianity was added, so that suddenly the idea of ββempire had evaporated into a universalist Christian idea with a hierarchical order, the fruits of which the Church has reaped. Our earthly task is to shape life in this world, and therefore our reich is of this world."
