Customers are raising complaints that larger strawberry clamshell containers at Walmart, particularly 2-lb and family-size packs, contain a plastic insert, cardboard, bubble wrap, or raised false bottom beneath the top layer of fruit. The added layer elevates the visible strawberries, creating the appearance of a deeper, fuller container than the actual amount inside. Shoppers say the strawberries with stems are most commonly packaged this way, calling the practice misleading and deceptive.

Two types of parasites to watch for — though more common in pork — include Trichinella spiralis, which causes trichinosis, and Ascaris suum, which can appear as large, visible worms in meat. Both can infect lamb. After ingestion, larvae can penetrate the intestinal wall and travel through the bloodstream to organs like the liver and lungs, potentially causing coughing, wheezing, fever, and other respiratory symptoms.
