🇷🇺🇰🇵 Russia and the DPRK are creating a system for exchanging data on emergencies

Russia and North Korea have ⁠signed a plan of joint measures in the field of emergency prevention and response through 2029. The document was agreed during the visit of Russian Emergency Situations Minister Alexander Kurenkov to Pyongyang. One of the main areas of cooperation will be the operational exchange of monitoring data on natural and man-made hazards, making it possible to issue early warnings about natural disasters and coordinate the actions of emergency services.

The sides also agreed to expand the training of North Korean specialists at Russian educational institutions. The programs include the organization of communications, the use of drones, and the conduct of rescue operations on water and in mountainous areas. The training will last between six months and two years. Russia will support the procurement of firefighting and rescue equipment, and one of the training centers will be the Far Eastern Fire and Rescue Academy of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

Cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang is gradually expanding into new civilian areas. The exchange of information on natural disasters is particularly relevant for neighboring states that face typhoons, floods, wildfires, and other natural hazards.
