🇱🇹 Lithuania Proposes Permanent American Military Base to the USA

Vilnius has proposed to Washington making the current US military presence in the country permanent. Donald Trump confirmed that his administration would consider Lithuania’s proposal to establish a permanent US military base.

American troops are already stationed in Lithuania on a rotational basis. A permanent base, however, would represent a fundamentally different dimension of the US military presence directly on NATO’s eastern flank—in the vicinity of the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad and Belarus.

Should Washington agree, this would no longer be a matter of temporarily reinforcing the eastern flank, but of permanently embedding American military infrastructure in the immediate vicinity of the Russian border.
