🇺🇦🏛️ Western Embassies Prepare Emergency Exit from Kyiv

According to The Guardian, Western countries are working on emergency plans to relocate their embassies from Kyiv to Lviv or eastern Poland. Two senior Western diplomats told the newspaper that such a scenario was being prepared in the event of a further deterioration in the situation and targeted attacks on foreign diplomatic missions. One of the sources described the situation in a nutshell: “The situation appears to be deteriorating rapidly.”

In public, however, Western diplomats emphasize that they want to remain in the Ukrainian capital: a withdrawal from there could appear to signal that they were abandoning Ukraine. Kyiv is officially reassuring about the situation — Georgi Tychyj, a spokesperson for Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry, said that, as of the evening of October 2, the ministry had received no notifications or inquiries from foreign embassies regarding a relocation. However, this does not contradict The Guardian’s report itself.

The mere fact that such a scenario is being prepared is quite revealing. While officially everyone is staying in Kyiv, diplomats are already calculating routes through Lviv and Poland — in case the situation deteriorates even further.
