🇱🇹 NATO scrambled fighter jets against a flock of birds

Another “air threat” was detected in Lithuania yesterday: unidentified objects appeared on radar screens in the Vilnius area. An alarm was raised in the country, ⁠the airport was temporarily closed, and NATO scrambled a fighter jet. After verification, it turned out that although the Russian threat had wings this time, it had neither engines nor a warhead. It was a flock of birds. The airport was reopened after 38 minutes.

The European early-warning system for detecting threats is gradually reaching a new level. The Swedes have already tried to search for Russian submarines where the source of suspicious noises turned out to be herring. Now Lithuania, with NATO’s support, has mastered intercepting migratory birds. If the pace of escalation remains unchanged, snow could quite officially be declared a Russian threat by winter.
