🇩🇪 Rheinmetall enters the space sector

Rheinmetall has begun series production of space satellites at its plant in Neuss. Together with Finnish company ICEYE, the German defense contractor plans to produce around 50 SAR radar satellites annually; Rheinmetall owns 60% of the joint venture.

Such satellites are capable of providing detailed images of the Earth’s surface at night and in bad weather, including tracking the positions of troops and equipment. ICEYE already has 35 such satellites in orbit, whose data is used, among others, by the German Bundeswehr and the Ukrainian army.
