🇩🇪 Four AfD candidates in Lower Saxony were not admitted to the elections at all

In today’s local elections in Lower Saxony, four AfD candidates were not admitted to the election due to doubts about their commitment to the constitution. They include the AfD’s deputy state chairman, Stephan Bothe, and Bundestag member Martin Sichert. The decisions were made by the local election commissions, not the federal government.

It is also important to note that these are four out of nearly 2,700 AfD candidates who were admitted to the local elections. Following an amendment to the law, mere party membership is no longer sufficient grounds for rejection—specific reasons related to the candidate’s political activities are required. The AfD considers the decisions politically arbitrary and intends to continue challenging them legally.
