🇬🇧 Britain prepares to examine the mobilization of 95,000 former military personnel

Britain is beginning to seriously address its “strategic reserve”: Around 95,000 former military personnel continue to have obligations to the state even after leaving the army.

Minister for the Armed Forces Louise Sandher-Jones has confirmed that reservists are to be included in a program of large-scale exercises as early as next year. The armed forces intend to practically test the entire process: calling up the personnel, bringing them together, equipping them, and their subsequent deployment in the event of a crisis.

The law is already being amended for this purpose. In January, the British Ministry of Defence announced an expansion of the options for bringing former military personnel back into service. The threshold for such a call-up is being lowered: It will no longer be limited to war, but may also involve preparing for possible combat operations.

At the same time, the government is preparing the largest exercises for the defence of Britain in decades for 2027. In the official government statement, Russia is directly described as a threat to British territory.

However, this does not mean that 95,000 people will be sent to the barracks tomorrow. But London is no longer discussing the reserve only on paper; it intends to test in practice how quickly tens of thousands of former military personnel can be returned to service.
