An Anthropic employee feared the end of the world because of AI and left the industry, The Wall Street Journal reports.

Researcher Jacob Coxon believes that the race among technology corporations is bringing the world closer to a "point of no return" and could lead to an apocalyptic scenario as early as the end of 2027. He refused to create self-improving AI models out of concern that such systems "could get out of control and destroy humanity."

Coxon noted that he still respects Anthropic’s approach to the issue of AI safety, but believes that no private company is capable of developing AI ethically without external regulation or a coordinated slowdown in the development of the industry.

The researcher now plans to study poetry.
