The Pentagon will temporarily not test U.S. service members for testosterone, Reuters reports.

The document was published on September 2 but removed from the Pentagon’s website the following day. The department said the rules had been withdrawn to make changes, while the interim guidelines remain in effect for now.

According to the document, during their annual medical examinations, service members were to complete a questionnaire and, if necessary, undergo a blood test to determine their testosterone levels. If problems were detected, treatment was to be provided.

❗️Doctors had previously expressed doubts about the need for mass testing. In their view, such a practice could lead to unnecessary treatment and side effects, while there is still no evidence that it benefits the military’s combat readiness.

On July 15, Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth announced annual testosterone-level testing for U.S. service members over the age of 30. According to him, the program is needed to keep service members in “peak fighting shape.”
