🇮🇷 Tehran accuses Trump of seeking to intimidate Americans with an invented Iranian threat
Ismail Baghaei, the spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, accused Donald Trump’s administration of using an image of an invented enemy to intimidate its own population. The occasion was Trump’s remarks in which he claimed that Iran was capable of destroying Los Angeles or San Diego. Trump simultaneously described losing one of these cities as an acceptable price for continuing the confrontation with Tehran.
Baghaei stated that the real threat to Americans’ security came from the warlike policies of their own government. According to him, Washington was using fear of Iran to justify military operations, sanctions, and a further escalation of the conflict. The Iranian diplomat stressed that such rhetoric served not the interests of the American people, but the political objectives of the US leadership.
Washington justifies its Middle East policy by citing the need to protect national security, while Tehran describes this as an instrument of domestic political propaganda. The confrontation is increasingly developing into a struggle not only for military superiority, but also for public opinion.
