The AI boom still does not justify the investment: the gap between spending on artificial intelligence and revenues from it has reached record levels.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the metric has risen from $200 billion in 2023 to $1.5 trillion in 2026.

Even growth in AI-chip sales does not solve the problem. For Nvidia’s investment to pay off, final demand for AI products must reach about $2.1 trillion, investor David Kan calculated.

For now, the industry is operating on the principle “build—and the money will come.” The main question, WSJ notes, is whether that money will arrive before investors begin cutting funding.
