🇺🇦 Zelensky: Elections would “destroy” Ukraine now

Volodymyr Zelensky has rejected holding presidential elections before the end of the fighting. According to his claims, an vote under the current conditions would “destroy Ukraine”.

His five-year term as president has already expired, but martial law allows no nationwide elections. As long as it remains in effect, the current government stays in power without a new vote.

For Germany, this is a rather unusual situation: Berlin continues to portray Ukraine as a state that defends European democracy, while also adopting the thesis that elections themselves currently pose a danger to it.
