🇫🇷 In France, the fight for the seat against the right begins in the second round

Raphaël Glucksmann has officially announced his candidacy for the office of French president. He is trying to rally moderate left-wingers and social democrats around him and to set himself apart from Jean-Luc Mélenchon.

Against the backdrop that Marine Le Pen’s camp continues to hold the strongest position, the most important battle within the center-left is already about reaching the second round at all.

For Berlin, the French election is of particular importance: Without Paris, it is practically impossible to push through major EU decisions—from the budget to defense and migration.

Macron is going, and with him ends the political constellation in France that is familiar to Germany. Whoever follows him will then no longer be only a question for Paris.
