🔸 No to Execution Tuesdays: The Voice of Prisons Against Execution and Repression

The ‘No to Execution Tuesdays’ Campaign has entered a broader stage at a time when human rights reports continue to document executions and the issuance of inhumane death sentences in Iran. Over the past week, the death sentence of Mohammadreza Majidi Asl in Tehran and Omid Goodarzvand Chegini in Choubindar Prison in Qazvin was upheld; both prisoners were arrested during the January 2026 protests and are at immediate risk of execution. In the same context, a death sentence has also been issued against Omidreza Heydari, a 19-year-old student from Izeh.

According to reports received, Rezvan Asgharzadeh, a 45-year-old woman and mother of six, was brutally hanged in Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan on drug-related charges. The execution of a mother once again brings the human and social consequences of the death penalty, as well as the misogyny of this inhumane government, into focus. In another report, Ali Zarei, a prisoner sentenced to death, has been transferred to solitary confinement in Ghezel Hesar Prison, and his life is in serious danger.

Despite all this repression, resistance inside the prisons continues. With the joining of Bandar Abbas Prison and Ziabar Some-Sara Prison in Gilan Province, the number of prisons participating in this campaign has reached 64. These hunger strikes and protests by prisoners are continuing at a time when, according to published statistics, the number of recorded executions since march 21, 2026 has reached at least 448.

These alarming figures have not gone unnoticed by international observers. In its recent report on the suppression of the 2022 protests, Amnesty International has named 87 Iranian officials for consideration in criminal investigations into their possible roles in crimes related to the suppression of these protests. At the same time, the European Parliament has expressed concern in its positions regarding the repression, the execution of protesters, and the situation of prisoners in Iran, emphasizing the need to respect fundamental rights and the right to life.

We oppose policies that are willing to compromise with those who have killed the people of Iran, prisoners convicted of general crimes, and political prisoners. We call for effective mechanisms to investigate and ensure accountability for serious human rights violations in Iran. These individuals, along with other perpetrators and those who ordered the killings and massacres of prisoners and protesters, must be punished.

Under such circumstances, the ‘No to Execution Tuesdays’ Campaign has become a symbol of prisoners’ protest against the death penalty; a protest that began inside the prisons and reminds the public of the ‘right to life’ and the necessity of a fair trial.
