⚠️Telegram Desktop had a flaw that could quietly expose exported chats

A vulnerability in Telegram Desktop allowed attackers to hide JavaScript inside bot-generated message buttons. The code stayed harmless inside Telegram but could execute when a victim exported the chat as HTML and opened the file in a browser.

The script could read messages contained in the exported file — including names, timestamps and chat details and send them to an attacker-controlled server. Researchers also demonstrated that the exported page could be replaced with a fake Telegram verification screen.

The flaw was fixed in Telegram Desktop 7.0.1 and 6.9.4 beta. The important catch: HTML exports created before the fix can still contain the malicious code, even if Telegram is updated today.

🐳 Whale x Tonviewer saga continues.

Whale ran an ad on Tonviewer. The TON community had a meltdown. A few hours later, Tonviewer was quietly replaced by Tonscan and the ad disappeared.

But Whale isn’t letting the story die.

They’ve now launched a poll asking the TON community what they actually think about the whole situation.

After all the drama, it’s time for the community to have its say 👀

🐳 Whale ran an ad on Tonviewer. TON community had a meltdown.

Ad goes up → community melts down → Telegram quietly swaps Tonviewer out for Tonscan → ad comes down.

Four hours. One whale. Zero apologies 🐟

Here's what nobody's saying though:

Whale was the first casino on Telegram. When TG started banning gambling apps, they didn't get removed. They walked. Built their own platform, kept their players, and never looked back.

Years later they buy one ad on TON's biggest explorer, and judging by the reaction, they've been living rent-free in everyone's head ever since 🧠

The ad is down. The story isn't 👀

Pavel Durov on X:

“Two years ago, I was detained in Paris by police for 3 days — the longest they can hold someone before charging them.

In an unprecedented move, French authorities accused the head of a major platform of crimes committed by its users.

That investigation is still ongoing, although it makes less sense with each passing year.

Why?

Because we now have extensive evidence that Telegram was neither worse than other popular platforms at moderation, nor the worst at cooperating with authorities.

So why was Telegram singled out?

Over the last two years, we have seen a pattern emerge in multiple countries: Telegram is quietly asked to grant political favors — such as illegal censorship or surveillance. When we refuse, local media and “non-governmental” organizations launch orchestrated campaigns portraying Telegram as a cesspool of crime, from child pornography to terrorism.

Our moderation is no worse than that of other major platforms. Yet these campaigns instill the idea that Telegram should be persecuted or restricted.

Suddenly, officials start caring about crime and protecting children — but only on platforms that reject their secret political demands. Platforms that accept such deals get away with almost anything — including literally selling ads promoting child pornography.

Is the French investigation against me political? It certainly fits the pattern we see elsewhere, mostly in authoritarian countries. And it definitely raises questions.

In time, this investigation may itself be investigated — especially now that Macron’s war against free speech is facing pushback. This month, France’s Constitutional Council struck down his social media ban for children under 15 on freedom-of-expression grounds.

In the end, freedom and truth will prevail ✊”

There are some files appearing on torrenting websites right now, these contain malware with infostealers and remote-access trojans. Stay vigilant!
