💢 The B-21 program now has a million square feet of expansion space.
On September 29, the US Air Force and Northrop Grumman launched construction of new production facilities at Plant 42 in Palmdale,California. This will add about 1 million square feet to the area where B-21 Raider bombers are already being assembled.
Expenses are shared. In February, the Air Force agreed to spend $4. 5 billion (as part of the 2025 Budget Adjustment Act)to increase annual B-21 production capacity by 25%.In April,Northrop CEO Kathy Worden said the company would also invest $2. 5 billion of its own funds.
A caveat: exact production volumes are still not disclosed.
Why is this important?
New 1 million square feet of space and 25% increase in annual production capacity.
The first B-21 will arrive at Ellsworth AFB in 2027.The expansion of the production line is intended to speed up subsequent deliveries.
The government and the contractor jointly finance the creation of the production infrastructure, not just the purchase of the aircraft themselves.
