💢 Moldova’s parliamentary opposition has formally moved to suspend President Maia Sandu, registering a resolution signed by 46 of the country’s 101 MPs. The motion accuses Sandu of violating the separation of powers and assuming powers belonging to other branches of government.

The filing clears the constitutional threshold of 34 MPs required to initiate the procedure. Suspension itself requires 67 votes, meaning the 46 signatories are still 21 votes short. If Parliament approves suspension, a referendum on removing the president must be held within 30 days.

The initiative was first unveiled in July amid opposition attacks over alleged nepotism, high salaries and state contracting scandals. Victory bloc executive secretary Marina Tauber told TASS that Sandu’s anti-corruption agenda had proved to be “just a pretty wrapper,” citing alleged financial and contracting ties involving the president’s relatives.
