DefiLlama and Forgd launch universal token ratings covering 128 tokens – Link

The new system scores tokens on market transparency and functioning, with Uniswap the only project to receive the top AAA grade.

Matters because: standardized token scoring could become a reference point for institutional allocators and help separate higher-quality token models from weaker ones.

Fed chair Kevin Warsh's Jackson Hole speech is the key risk event ahead – Link

Traders are positioning for Warsh's Jackson Hole address at 22:00 Beijing time / 14:00 UTC Aug 28. July PCE is still elevated at 3.7% y/y, Fed officials are split on how restrictive rates are, and futures price about a 36% chance of a September hike.

Matters because: a hawkish surprise could hit crypto and other risk assets, while a neutral or dovish tone may help extend the rally. This is the main near-term macro catalyst for BTC and ETH.

NUVA brings nvPRIME-backed USDC lending to Morpho through RockawayX – Link

A while ago, I wrote that one of my biggest issues with RWAs is that bringing assets onchain means almost nothing without practical utility across DeFi.

NUVA’s new RockawayX-curated vault is a step toward solving that. Users can deposit USDC and lend against nvPRIME collateral for a target return of 7.5%, with rewards distributed through Merkl.

nvPRIME holders can also borrow USDC without selling their position or giving up exposure to the underlying real-estate credit yield. This makes the token more useful and allows them to deploy that USDC elsewhere.

The 86% maximum LTV allows holders to borrow more against the same collateral, but leaves less cushion against a drop in nvPRIME before liquidation.

Matters because: This moves nvPRIME beyond passive RWA exposure and turns it into productive DeFi collateral.

Fed's Jackson Hole speech looms as key catalyst for rate path – Link

Fed Chair Kevin Warsh speaks at Jackson Hole this week (Aug 27–29). Markets are watching whether he frames above-target inflation as transitory or demand-driven, with CME pricing meaningful odds of a September hike instead of a cut.

Matters because: A hawkish tone could pressure BTC and risk assets, while a dovish read may reinforce the recent rally.

Grayscale's Zcash ETF debuts on NYSE Arca, then cools – Link

Grayscale's spot Zcash ETF began trading Aug 25 with roughly $314M in initial assets and a 2.5% sponsor fee. ZEC then pulled back about 8% from its 8-year high near $880, with price near $780.

Matters because: The launch validated institutional demand for privacy-asset exposure, but the pullback suggests near-term upside may be capped until new demand emerges.

SEC submits crypto custody rule overhaul to White House for review – Link

The SEC sent a proposal to the White House OMB on Aug 25 aimed at modernizing how investment advisers and funds custody digital assets. The proposal would remove outdated requirements, but still needs OMB review, an SEC vote, and a public comment period.

Matters because: If finalized, the change could reduce custody friction for institutions and support further TradFi-crypto integration.

SEC proposes first crypto-specific offering framework ("Regulation Crypto Assets") – Link

The SEC proposed tailored exemptions for non-security crypto offerings, including a $5M startup exemption, a $75M annual fundraising exemption, and a safe harbor from "investment contract" classification once a project is sufficiently decentralized. A 60-day comment period is now open.

Matters because: It may signal a shift away from regulation-by-enforcement and improve long-term conditions for U.S.-based token issuance.

Treasury expands long-bond buyback program, sparking "debasement trade" and BTC rally past $78K – Link

The U.S. Treasury raised its long-dated bond repurchase limit from $2B to at least $4B per operation for Sept 9–Nov 4. Markets read it as a dovish signal on fiscal stress, with the dollar weaker and gold and Bitcoin rallying; BTC gained roughly 23% on the week and broke above $78,000.

Matters because: Risk assets are pricing in future liquidity easing rather than the direct policy mechanics, so the move could reverse if the Fed or Treasury clarifies it is not a precursor to looser policy.

BlackRock slashes IBIT in-kind conversion minimum to $1M – Link

BlackRock cut the minimum for in-kind BTC-to-IBIT share conversions by 96%, from $25M to $1M. Cumulative in-kind conversions have topped $5B, up from $3B in October.

Matters because: Lower access barriers may move more wealth from self-custody into regulated ETF wrappers and deepen ETF-linked liquidity over time.

US Treasury sanctions Iran's digital asset industry for the first time – Link

The US Treasury/OFAC expanded its "Economic Outcast" sanctions program to explicitly cover Iran's digital asset industry. The action targets exchanges, OTC desks, payment processors, and wallet addresses tied to IRGC-linked actors as the Iranian rial hit a historic low near 202,000 IRR/USD.

Matters because: It raises compliance risk for any exchange or infrastructure provider with exposure to Iran-linked flows and shows crypto rails are now a formal sanctions battleground.

Bitkub co-founder wallet moves 34,000 ZEC ($26.1M) to Hyperliquid, swaps for BTC – Link

A wallet linked to Bitkub co-founder Sakolkorn Sakavee transferred roughly $26.1M in ZEC to Hyperliquid and swapped into 238 BTC over the past day.

Matters because: Large identifiable-holder rotation out of a recently pumped asset into BTC may suggest profit-taking and a preference for the more liquid, ETF-backed asset.

Mina protocol confirms "Mesa" mainnet upgrade for September 3 – Link

Mina Protocol announced its Mesa upgrade, scheduled for mainnet on September 3, 2026. The update brings faster blocks, higher zkApp capacity, and a smoother path for future protocol upgrades.

• 90-second block times
• Increased zkApp throughput
• Streamlined future protocol upgrade path

Matters because: Faster blocks and more zkApp throughput could improve Mina's competitiveness for privacy and ZK-based applications.

Grayscale advances Zcash spot ETF filing, seeking NYSE Arca listing under "ZCH" – Link

Grayscale's fifth amended SEC filing renames the product "The Zcash ETF" with a 2.5% management fee, Coinbase Custody as custodian, and BNY Mellon as transfer agent. It would convert Grayscale's existing $260M+ Zcash Trust.

Matters because: This is a concrete regulatory step that may signal broader ETF issuer appetite beyond BTC and ETH into privacy-coin exposure, though approval timing remains unconfirmed.

Coinbase turned a Super Bowl ad into a conversion funnel

The visual is almost nothing but a coloured QR code bouncing on a black screen. That was the point: viewers had to scan it to understand what was going on.

The code led to a promotion with $15 in Bitcoin and entry into a larger giveaway, compressing the whole flow into one action: television exposure → curiosity → QR scan → landing page → account incentive.

– Coinbase reported approximately 20 million visits within one minute
– The app reportedly moved from 186th to second place in the US App Store
– The campaign also won the 2022 Super Clio

The ad did not just create attention, it forced participation. That is a clean example of how fintech and Web3 campaigns can turn media spend into product interaction.

Treasury bond buyback program triggers BTC short squeeze, $4B+ in shorts liquidated – Link

The U.S. Treasury's expansion of long-term bond repurchases pushed yields and the dollar lower, feeding a debasement trade that drove Bitcoin above the $62K–$67K range it had held for weeks. CoinGlass data showed more than $4 billion in crypto short positions liquidated by Friday.

Matters because: The move looks macro-liquidity driven, so further Treasury or dollar weakness could keep supporting BTC and broader risk assets.

Optimism governance reallocates 546.9M unused OP airdrop tokens to strategic ecosystem fund – Link

A governance vote with 61.84% support canceled remaining airdrop allocations and moved the ≈$49.7M-valued OP tokens to a foundation-managed fund for partnerships and liquidity incentives.

Matters because: This is a structural governance shift away from broad user airdrops toward targeted ecosystem deals, though some participants flagged the mandate as too broad.

LayerZero launches ATLAS exchange infrastructure with Citadel Securities/DTCC involvement – Link

LayerZero unveiled ATLAS, a "headless" trading, clearing, and settlement backend built on its Zero blockchain. It is positioned to serve both crypto-native exchanges and institutional/tokenized-asset markets.

• Citadel Securities and DTCC are reportedly involved or exploring integration.
• The protocol design ties 75% of post-rebate trading fees to ZRO buybacks and burns.

Matters because: TradFi market infrastructure players are testing crypto-native settlement rails, which could accelerate tokenization if adoption follows through.

Robinhood Chain's Arcus launches tokenized leveraged perp positions (pTokens) – Link

Arcus, built by the dYdX team on Robinhood Chain, launched a protocol that converts perpetual futures positions into transferable ERC-20 tokens such as pBTC3x and pHOOD3x. It also added multi-collateral support for tokenized stocks.

• Users can post SPY, QQQ, and MAG7 as collateral at a 50% loan-to-value ratio.
• Robinhood Chain's TVL has reportedly surpassed $596M since its July 1 mainnet launch.

Matters because: It signals real capital flowing into tokenized-equity DeFi, while also adding liquidation-cascade risk in volatile markets.

Bitwise launches self-custody tokenized stock portfolios (Automated Token Portfolios) – Link

Bitwise launched "Automated Token Portfolios," letting eligible non-US users auto-replicate professionally designed portfolios through self-custody wallets. The product is built on Coinbase's tokenized equities and executed through Glider.

• Portfolios include Magnificent Seven, AI, and robotics themes.
• The fee is 0.15%.

Matters because: It expands retail access to tokenized equity exposure without custodial risk, though liquidity and regulatory clarity remain unproven at scale.
