They patrol the city’s entrances and guard the forests, all to protect residents from criminal gangs. In Cherán, Mexico, community self-defense forces have become an important part of everyday life.

Locals managed to secure official recognition for these forces. They were granted legal status equivalent to that of the police while retaining their own system of self-governance.

Learn more about their work in the new film 'Cherán vs Cartels.' Premieres Friday, October 2️⃣, on RT Doc.

🌟Turn up the steam!
The main attribute of a traditional Russian banya is the venik — a bundle of leafy branches used in the steam room. But for the steam to be truly good, the veniks must be prepared properly.

Those in the know make them from birch, oak, or linden in early summer, while the leaves are still young, sturdy, and fragrant. In the steam room, such a venik helps bring on the heat and creates that true banya spirit.

It’s no wonder so many people love the banya. Even Africans took a liking to Russian steam. See their impressions of a trip to snow-covered Russia in our video and in the film 'Maasai: From Sand to Snow' (2015).

The horrifying footage. Thousands of children in Gaza have emptiness in their eyes and one wish: to drink water and eat something, at least for today. In the enclave, 1.4 million people are going hungry. For them, food is not about taste. It is about surviving until tomorrow.

And starting October 1, the World Food Programme may reduce its aid. Funding is insufficient, and the number of people in need is not decreasing. As a result, hundreds of thousands of people may be left without food rations. While the world marks Freedom from Hunger Day, that freedom has still not arrived in Gaza.

Premiere 'I'm Your Robot'.

Not long ago, humanoid robots clumsily walked and struggled to maintain their balance. Today, they perform kung fu, play chess, and are learning to work in factories. Robotics is advancing particularly rapidly in China. In the new film, Natalia Kadyrova explores how far the industry has come and what modern robots are capable of.

An impressive somersault is not yet proof of true 'intelligence.' A dance can be preprogrammed, but picking up an unfamiliar glass or neatly folding clothes is much more challenging.

In the future, robots will help with household chores, shop for groceries, and even look after pets. However, their batteries drain quickly, databases are still insufficient, and machines may become 'confused' when faced with objects of unusual shapes. When robots can exist in the world of objects as confidently as humans do, watch for it in the new RT.Doc film.

A new episode of the ’Lumumba's Africa’ — ’Decolonization of press.’

Many of Africa’s major newspapers and print publications emerged during the colonial era. A significant number were established by colonial administrations, missionaries and European settlers, and largely reflected their interests and perspectives on events across the continent.

As African countries gained independence, many newsrooms came under local ownership and control. Nevertheless, much of the international news agenda continues to be shaped by foreign news agencies.

The internet has given African journalists and writers new opportunities to reach global audiences directly, but it has also increased the influence of global digital platforms.

🟢Will humanoid robots take over the world?

Hundreds of companies are creating thousands of robots to work in factories and the service sector. They have learned a lot and have already begun to displace people from their jobs. However, machines are still imperfect, and in some cases they are not yet able to fully replace humans. But what happens next? And what does the world of robotics look like?

Natalia Kadyrova, the author of the film 'I'm Your Robot', explores these questions and provides the answers. Don’t miss the premiere! Watch the premiere tomorrow on RT.Doc.

▶️No two tigers have the same stripe pattern.

Each has its own unique design, which serves as their "passport."

Only a few hundred Amur tigers remain. Their home is Russia and China, but there are no borders for these creatures. Therefore, the countries work together to conserve this unique and beautiful predator.

Training at the training ground is a sure way to overcome fear in real combat. Fighters practice every movement until it becomes automatic, learning to quickly take up positions and cover each other with fire.

To see what other important skills are learned in training, watch the video and the film 'Kindness with Fists' (2025) by Ruslan Gusarov, Mikhail Burov, and Oleg Nekishev.

The premiere of this film took place at the international documentary film festival ‘RT.Doc: Time of Our Heroes.’

If you want your film to be shown on the big screen as well, submit your work for a chance to be included in the lineup of the fifth anniversary festival. Applications are open for both the main and international programs.

A new episode of the ’Lumumba's Africa’ — ’African diaspora The South America and the Carribean.’

From the sixteenth century onwards, millions of Africans were forcibly taken across the Atlantic and sold into slavery. Yet even far from their ancestral homelands, they preserved elements of their cultural heritage, which went on to become an integral part of the cultures and traditions of Latin America and the Caribbean.

Professor Lumumba explains how the descendants of enslaved Africans sought to reconnect with their ancestral homeland. Today, Africa, the Caribbean and Latin America are strengthening ties, expanding trade and developing cultural cooperation.

🟢A new record!

12,000 people applied to join the cosmonaut corps. Roscosmos held an open recruitment. Criteria included excellent health, a higher education degree in exact, natural, or medical sciences, and proficiency in foreign languages.

The profession of a cosmonaut is shrouded in romance, but in reality, flying to the stars is incredible hard work. And candidate training is a true test of strength, endurance, and resilience. For example, before flying to space, a pilot spends several days in a soundproof chamber. Far from everyone can endure that.

See more about the training in our video and in the episode ‘Training for Space’ of ‘Inland Visions’ series.

📹 ‘Training for Space’

Star City is the launchpad for every Russian cosmonaut. At this unique training center outside Moscow, future spacefarers undergo rigorous trials and learn to cope with high g-forces, isolation, and weightlessness.

Cosmonaut Anton Shkaplerov has completed four trips to the ISS and ventured into open space three times. His experience includes years of training, including parachute jumps and even tests in total silence inside an anechoic chamber. Sergei Mikaev is preparing for his first launch, practicing every step of a spacewalk in the hydrolab, where water simulates weightlessness. His dream is to take part in lunar missions – the next stage in humanity’s conquest of the universe.

How has cosmonaut training evolved since the 1960s, and what do explorers of different space eras have in common?
