It has been an eventful month since the last release as we worked on a number of quality improvements across both the device tree and kernel tree.
For starters, we have fixed the random reboot and non-booting issues experienced by some devices with faulty fingerprint hardware. In fact, this was one of the first issues addressed within the kernel tree
[1] [2] [3].
Moving on, some cleanup work was carried out to remove remnants of non-existent fingerprint hardware configurations in the device tree
[4] [5]. Additionally, both the fingerprint initialization script and kernel module loading script were rewritten
[6] [7]. The fingerprint initialization script required a rewrite as it was partly responsible for causing the random reboot and non-booting issues, while the kernel module loading script was unnecessarily modular and has now been simplified.
Moreover, proprietary blobs and firmware have been updated to the latest
V1TDS35H.83-20-5-11 release. This update also includes some improvements made to the GPU firmware and its corresponding GPU kernel driver
[8] [9] [10] [11].
One of the biggest improvements in this release is the introduction of thermal pressure accounting within the MediaTek cpufreq-hw driver
[12]. In simple terms, this allows the scheduler to recognize when CPUs are being thermally throttled and adjust their available capacity accordingly. As a result, tasks are less likely to be migrated to throttled CPUs, leading to improved load balancing, better efficiency, and more consistent sustained performance.
Finally, the device tree received some additional cleanup by deduplicating certain init scripts, removing more logging utilities, and eliminating redundant directory creation.
