Willard Wigan — the British artist behind Earth’s tiniest masterpieces. His micro-sculptures, just a few microns wide, fit in a needle’s eye or on a pinhead. To work at this scale, he holds his breath and carves only in the 1.5-second gap between heartbeats, avoiding pulse tremors. He crafts tools from diamond shards and uses a fly’s whisker or his eyelash to paint. From sand, gold, and nylon, he creates intricate scenes — from Cinderella’s carriage to The Last Supper. His talent earned him two Guinness World Records and the title of Member of the Order of the British Empire.

Ernan Bas, "Uninvited Guest," 2019.

At twilight, where magical realism meets postmodern gothic, Bas’s enigmatic tale unfolds. A melancholic youth in an orange sweater sits in isolation. Who is the uninvited guest? Is he the intruder—or merely an outsider at life’s feast?

Surrounded by eerie décor—paper spirits, a floating black cat, clay pumpkins with pulsing human eyes—he embodies solitude. The eyes symbolize paranoia, unseen watchfulness. This neoromantic work is a global art treasure, valued at hundreds of thousands, displayed in top museums in New York and London. Bas turns theatrical fear into profound drama.

Zinaida Serebryakova
"At Her Toilette," 1909

Zinaida was born into a true dynasty of artists and deeply creative individuals. Though raised in a wealthy family, she would face severe persecution after the revolution, ultimately fleeing the country with her four children. Each of her works carries a distinct style and a striking individuality. "At Her Toilet, " an intimate self-portrait, captures the quiet ease of a bright morning and the serene rhythm of getting ready.

Atmospheric urban landscapes of European cities by contemporary artist Sergey Monakhov

How fleeting the shadows of autumn's early hours,
How I long to quiet their gentle unrest—
That yellow leaf fallen upon the path,
That clear day filled through with shadows.
For shadows are but beauty overflowing,
And these days of tranquil stir
Bring inspiration to final longings,
A surplus of a dream now taking flight.

At first glance, artist Lyubov Zhuravleva's paintings captivate with their atmosphere and depth.

She achieves something truly remarkable—seamlessly blending a vibrant urban landscape, a cozy interior, and a delicate still life within a single canvas. Rain, snow, or falling leaves beyond a large window gently contrast with the warmth inside, the scent of tea, and an ever-present fluffy cat on the windowsill. Modern impressionism at its finest.

May your evening be filled with calm and the quiet comfort of home. 🍵

A masterpiece with a legal secret: Jan van Eyck’s "Portrait of the Arnolfini Couple" (1434) shows a morganatic union. The groom holds his bride’s right hand with his left—defying tradition, signaling she won’t inherit his wealth or titles. The painting acts as a marriage contract in paint. Above the mirror, an inscription reads “Jan van Eyck was here,” not as a joke but as a legal witness. The mirror reflects two onlookers—one is Van Eyck himself, serving as official notary to the union before God and law. #ArtHistory #VanEyck #Secrets

Cozy magic in the everyday, captured in the paintings of Sergei Belov. ✨

This remarkable Russian artist possesses a rare gift — transforming ordinary daily scenes into poetic, almost theatrical moments. His distinctive style blends the traditions of classical realism with subtle touches of symbolism.

Belov masterfully captures fragments of life’s flow, reminding us how much beauty and warmth lie hidden in life’s simplest, fleeting moments.

"Walk Under an Umbrella," 2018

Nature knows no bad weather—
Every kind of day is grace.
Rain or snow, in any season,
We must learn to accept with gratitude.

Echoes of inner turmoil,
The mark of loneliness in the heart,
And the sorrowful blooms of sleepless nights—
We must learn to accept with gratitude,
We must learn to accept with gratitude.

The death of dreams, the years, hardships—
Each day, the burden grows heavier.
Whatever nature has assigned you,
You must accept with gratitude.

The passing of summers, sunsets, dawns,
And the final gift of love,
Even the date of your departure—
You must accept with gratitude,
You must accept with gratitude.

Nature knows no bad weather,
You cannot stop time’s passage.
Life’s autumn, like the autumn of the year,
You must bless without grief,
You must bless without grief,

You must bless without grief.

"Leaves Are Falling. Streets of Vesennaya," 1973

Autumn. A fairy-tale hall laid bare.
Clearings gaze into lakes below.

Like an art exhibition—
room after room: elms, ashes, aspens
in unprecedented gold.

Lindens in golden hoops,
like a bride’s crown.
The birch’s face beneath
a sheer, soft veil floating down.

Earth buried in leaves—
ditches, hollows, pits.
Maples by outbuildings
like gilded frames.

Where September trees
at dawn stand in rows,
sunset leaves on bark
an amber glow.

Where no step in a ravine
goes unnoticed—
each step stirs
the wooden leaf.

Where alleys echo
from steep descents,
and cherry-red dawn
congeals into dark.

Autumn. An ancient corner
of old books, clothes, arms—
frost flips through
the catalog of treasures.

Boris Pasternak. Golden Autumn

Paul Jorgensen’s patchwork fairy-tale landscapes

Before fully dedicating himself to painting, Jorgensen spent nearly 30 years exploring different paths—working in graphic design, managing a tropical plant shop, and even running his own restaurant, all while painting in his spare time. The artist himself jokingly calls his success “an overnight sensation prepared over 55 years.”

Heavy luxury of 1684: The Diamond Cap of Peter I

Imagine a 1.4 kg headdress. Crafted in 1684 for young Peter I, this crown was worn daily—unlike the sacred Monomakh’s Cap. Jewelers reused elements from his brother Fyodor’s crown. Gilded plates with enamel hold 817 large diamonds in delicate lacework.

Key feature? Large emeralds and tourmalines seemingly floating above fur trim. With each step, they swayed, catching candlelight, dazzling all. At the top, beneath the cross, a rare spinel glows. Carried at Peter’s 1725 funeral, it was then called the “Siberian Crown.”

See it in Hall No. 7 of the Kremlin’s Armoury Chamber.

Radiant landscapes by Mikhail Georgievich Abakumov (1948–2010), an outstanding Soviet and Russian painter, People's Artist of the Russian Federation.

My credo in painting: to celebrate the world of God in its beauty, harmony, and light. If I can convey divine light, that will be true happiness… Perhaps I paint an ideal land—but this is exactly how I would wish to see Russia.

Secret codes:
*The Awakening Conscience* by William Holman Hunt (1853)

In Victorian England, this painting exploded like a bomb. At first glance, it shows a sweet couple at a piano. The man plays a tune—yet that melody triggers an avalanche. The woman suddenly rises from his lap, awakening in the stifling air of a rented room.

Hunt filled the room with symbols of moral decay. Beneath the table, a cat mauls a bird with a broken wing—an analogy for the couple. A glove lies discarded on the floor: once he tires, she’ll be cast out just as easily. Unraveled threads speak of a tangled fate; the clock beneath a glass dome reflects isolation.

The woman’s gaze passes beyond us, into a mirror revealing a blooming spring garden. The illusion of the “gilded cage” has shattered. Hunt captures a pivotal moment—the instant the soul awakens.
