The Stone That Burns from Within

Have you ever felt resentment or the pain of loss burning inside you? Taiwanese sculptor Hsieh Tung-liang captured that feeling in his work Unable to Let Go. The figure has no chest or abdomen. Suspended at heart level in the vast hollow space is a rough stone, hanging by a thin thread. It’s a striking metaphor for the “weight on your heart” so many of us carry for years.

The sculpture stands outdoors at the Jinshan Art Center in Taiwan. At sunset, sunlight passes through the empty figure while the stone tries to block its rays—a reminder of how emotional burdens can dim the light in our lives. It leaves us with one question:

What heavy burden are you carrying in your heart right now—and are you ready to finally cut the thread?
